We are playing with estimating and measuring lengths using snap cubes by finding items of similar lengths from around the room to create a measurement gallery.
Creating Character for Story Workshop
As we explore the big idea everyone has a unique story to share, we have been exploring elements of story. Students first planned and created characters for their stories during Story Workshop using different materials. They then created character profiles for their characters to tell us more about their characters personality traits, physical appearance, their name, and what makes them unique!
Wet Felting Story Mats
We have been exploring different tools and materials and developing our skills and adding new skills through play. Below, Vikhya creates a wet felted story mat to use during Story Workshop.
School-wide write term 3
As part of our school-wide write, we read the story If I Built A School by Chris Van Duden and explored the prompt if I built a school… Students then engaged in the writing process, including planning and writing to share their ideas.
Self portrait and peer reflection
As a class, we have been exploring lines and shapes. We use mirrors and carefully observed ourselves as we followed a step by step lesson on sketching a self portrait. Each of us then wrote on one another’s portrait to record the gift that we think they bring to our classroom.
Body Map – Exploring the core competencies
As we reflect on the Core Competencies, we have been exploring where they might live in our bodies. Our body maps reflect the places that we believe the Core Competencies live, as well as examples of when we have shown each of the competencies we have chosen. Students also engaged in reflecting on the gifts that they bring to our classroom community.
A copy of our body maps will be sent home. Please ask your child to explain and show you the different Core Competencies they have chosen along with their examples of when they have shown the core competency.
Reader’s Theatre
Students have been working hard to practice their Reader’s Theatre scripts with their peers. This is a fun and engaging way for us to continue developing our confidence as readers, develop a joy of reading, and build reading fluency. We are also building on our knowledge of oral language including adjusting volume, pace, tone, and articulation and focusing on the speaker.
Below is Vikhya and her peer’s performance. I ask that you please do not download the video to maintain the privacy of other students.
