Creating Character for Story Workshop

As we explore the big idea everyone has a unique story to share, we have been exploring elements of story. Students first planned and created characters for their stories during Story Workshop using different materials. They then created character profiles for their characters to tell us more about their characters personality traits, physical appearance, their name, and what makes them unique!

Reader’s Theatre

Students have been working hard to practice their Reader’s Theatre scripts with their peers. This is a fun and engaging way for us to continue developing our confidence as readers, develop a joy of reading, and build reading fluency. We are also building on our knowledge of oral language including adjusting volume, pace, tone, and articulation and focusing on the speaker.

Below is Vikhya and her peer’s performance. I ask that you please do not download the video to maintain the privacy of other students.

Grade 1 – Story Workshop

We have been working on finding stories while exploring different materials. So far, we have explored loose parts (gems, natural materials, character figures, buttons, wire etc.) and paint to help us find stories. We have then been capturing our stories on paper to share with others. Vikhya has chosen to share her story called Be Yourself.

Vikhya’s reflection: I am proud because each page there is a big sister and a small sister. The big sister is Lily and the small sister is Nina. Each page, they are telling us what to do and what not to do.

I am working on trying to tell everyone my story nicely so they don’t get confused.
