We are playing with estimating and measuring lengths using snap cubes by finding items of similar lengths from around the room to create a measurement gallery.

Grade 1 – I can create a math story for others to explore
We have been exploring different ways to model mathematical stories. Using different objects, students have explored strategies to make sense of, represent, and solve various problems. We have also been practicing documenting our thinking on paper and sharing our thinking with one another to help build on each others understandings. As part of our exploration of math stories, students came up with a story of their own to share with peers. Below, is the math story that Ewan created.
Grade 1 – Counting Collections
Students explored collections of items and were asked to explore how they could organize the collections to help them count how many they had. Below, Ewan demonstrates organizing a collection of buttons into groups of 5 to help him count how many buttons he had.
Grade 1 – Spooky Shape Art
As a class we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have been focusing on composing and decomposing shapes – putting shapes together and taking the apart. Through building and moving shapes around, we have been exploring the different qualities and characteristics of shapes.
Below, you will find Ewan’s Spooky Shape Art, where we applied what we have been learning about shapes to create and describe our art creation!
After creating our art, we recorded how many of each shape we used in our ten frames.
